The first OIKONET conference on “Global Dwelling” will take place on 25-26 September 2014 in Barcelona, organized by the School of Architecture La Salle.

OIKONET is a European project co-funded by the Executive Agency of Education, Audiovisual and Culture (EACEA), with the purpose of studying contemporary housing from a multidisciplinary and global perspective by encompassing the multiple dimensions which condition the forms of dwelling in today’s societies: architectural, urban, environmental, economic, cultural and social.

The program is structured in three sessions:

1. Conceptualizing contemporary housing research
2. Rethinking housing design learning and teaching and
3. Shaping the habitat with community participation. The program will close with a round table discussion about the topic global dwelling.

The purpose of the conference is to explore the global condition of contemporary housing as manifested in the demands for citizen participation in shaping the habitat, housing as a driver of urban regeneration, housing adaptability to new social and family structures, housing policies to provide affordable housing, and sustainability and energy efficiency of housing buildings, among others. These issues will be confronted from a multidisciplinary perspective that encompasses architecture and urban planning, sociology and anthropology, economics and housing policy.
